Ivan Savov, with volcanoes of southern Chile in the backdrop
Ivan Savov
Ivan was trained as a mining geologist and petrologist in Bulgaria, and developed geochemical and lab skills while working with Dr. Jeff Ryan at USF, in addition to falling in love with volcanic phenomena while working with Dr. Chuck Connor. He currently combines petrological and geochemical approaches to studying volcanic centers, and can often be found in the field collecting freshly erupted samples. Ivan has recently taken a lectureship at the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds, and is working on the following projects: the origin and evolution of the volcanism in the Western Pacific arc-basin region, Izu-Bonin-Mariana Islands, light element (B-Be-Li) isotope and abundance systematics of volcanic rocks from subduction zones, mantle xenoliths and eclogites, petrological and geochemical of historically active volcanic centers in Armenia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Iceland and the USA, B and Li isotope peculiarities of intraplate volcanic centers (Samoa, French Polynesia-Society Islands, Azores, Reunion, St. Helena, Mt. Erebus, Pribilof Isl.), and volcano-tectonic interactions and basaltic volcano conduit growth.
